Leon Tovar Gallery is pleased to present The Study of the Labyrinth, an exhibition dedicated to the work of Omar Rayo (1928–2010), one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Latin American art.
Borges once wrote that “in all times, in all possible worlds, paths branch and diverge.” From this emerges the mystery of the labyrinth: a structure in which even the straightest line can become the most uncertain journey. Omar Rayo’s work seems to inhabit these avenues. His geometries guide the eye along paths that fold, return, and multiply, inviting viewers to navigate the contours of thought never presenting itself as a definitive truth.
Within these compositions lies the possibility of an encounter with ritual and its boundaries, deeply intertwined with the native cultures of South America. Far from treating geometry as a purely formal exercise, Rayo transforms it into a language capable of evoking ancestral systems of knowledge.
The Study of the Labyrinth opened on June 9, 2026, in Bogotá, Colombia. Presented by Leon Tovar Gallery, the exhibition brought together twenty works by Omar Rayo, offering an overview of the artist’s exploration of geometry, perception, and visual rhythm. Spanning different moments of his career, the selected works also demonstrated his remarkable command of color, highlighting the depth and versatility of his visual language and his enduring contribution to Latin American abstraction.
